Understanding warranties & why they matter

Professional contractors should offer professional warranties

Title: Don’t Just Buy a Roof—Buy Peace of Mind: Why Workmanship and Manufacturer Warranties Matter

When you invest in a new roof, you’re not just buying shingles—you’re buying protection, peace of mind, and long-term performance. That’s why at High Command Roofing, we don’t just slap shingles on and walk away. We back every project with a 10-year workmanship warranty and materials that carry a 25-year limited lifetime manufacturer warranty from Owens Corning®.

But what does all this really mean? And why should you care?

Let’s break it down.

---

🔧 Workmanship Warranty: The Human Factor

Imagine this: You buy the best shingles on the market, but they’re installed poorly. Maybe the nails are overdriven, the flashing is off, or ventilation is ignored. Even the best materials will fail under poor craftsmanship.

That’s where a workmanship warranty comes in.

At High Command Roofing, our 10-year workmanship warranty covers any installation-related issues. If something goes wrong due to how we installed your roof—we fix it at no cost to you. No arguments. No finger-pointing. No blaming the weather.

This warranty protects you from the "Ed and Chip" contractors of the world—the guys who leave you with a patched-together roof, a handful of excuses, and no one answering the phone.

---

🛠️ Manufacturer Warranty: Protection Against Defects

Now, let’s talk shingles. Owens Corning® offers a 25-year limited lifetime warranty on their roofing products, including their top-tier Duration® series. This warranty covers:

Material defects during the first 10 years (called the TRU PROtection® period), where they cover both the materials AND the labor for replacement.

Prorated coverage after 10 years, based on how long you’ve had the shingles.

Wind damage up to 130 MPH for 15 years after install (after the shingles have had a chance to properly seal).

Algae resistance for up to 25 years (if algae-resistant shingles and matching hip & ridge accessories are used).

⚠️ But here's the kicker: Owens Corning will not cover installation errors. That’s why your roofer’s workmanship warranty is just as important—if not more.

---

🚫 What’s NOT Covered in the Manufacturer Warranty?

Let’s be clear: Owens Corning’s warranty does not cover:

Improper installation

Damage from poor ventilation

Flashing or decking not made by Owens Corning

Ice dams or water infiltration from outside the roofing system

Solar panel-related damage

Acts of God (hail, tornados, etc.)

In other words, if the roof fails because of how it was installed, the manufacturer won’t help you. Only your roofer’s workmanship warranty will.

---

🏆 Why It Matters

Homeowners get stuck between the installer and the manufacturer all the time. You don’t want to hear:

> “It’s not the shingles—it’s how they were installed.”

Or worse:

> “It’s not how we installed them—it’s the shingles.”

At High Command Roofing, we eliminate that confusion. We’re confident in our work and the materials we use. That’s why we combine Owens Corning’s industry-leading product warranty with our own 10-year workmanship guarantee. You’re fully covered from both angles.

---

✅ Final Thoughts: Don’t Gamble With Your Roof

A roof isn’t something you replace every few years. It’s a long-term investment. So when you’re getting quotes, ask every contractor:

What’s your workmanship warranty?

Is it in writing?

What brand are you using, and what’s their warranty?

If they don’t have a solid answer—or worse, if they shift blame—walk away.

At High Command Roofing, we do it right the first time. And if something goes wrong, we make it right. No drama. No dodging. Just honest work, backed by real warranties.

Because when it comes to your home, “good enough” isn’t good enough.
